Wood firing YAIR
Kickstart your career. Participate in Wood-Firer YAIR Symposium
17th of August – 20th of September 2020
Guldagergaard is pleased to announce that we are inviting applications from emerging artists, who specialise in wood-firing techniques within their artistic practice, to participate in the second round of this unique opportunity.
The WFYAIR Symposium was created in 2018 with the aim of creating an experience that would enable emerging artists with a passion for wood-firing to work alongside other like-minded artists. The emphasis of the symposium is for participants to engage in dialogue and create a network with other young artists with a passion for wood-firing, who are looking to push the boundaries in order to create dynamic and thought provoking works with this ancient technique.
Participants are given the tools and support they need in order for them to collectively combine their skills, knowledge and techniques and to ultimately make the best use of our fantastic facilities.
The 9 participants from our 2018 event collectively fired almost all of the kilns available at Guldagergaard ICRC including Fred Olsen’s Cross Draft ‘Embla’ and Andres Allik’s ‘Babygama’.
The resulting pieces from these firings made for a powerful and dynamic final exhibition that was displayed in our Apple House Gallery.
The symposium celebrates and supports international exchange in order to ensure the future development of the ceramic arts. It provides a platform for recent graduates to forge invaluable international networks, which are essential in the development of their careers as Professional Artists.
